Everplans.com
2011-Now

My co-founder Abby Schneiderman and I had a mission: everyone in the world should have a "for when the time comes plan" that provides your family with all the information and resources that they will need if something happens to you.
Over the years, Everplans became more of a “get your life organized” tool and we helped over 200,000 families organize, store and securely share their important info, docs, policies and plans. Everplans also helps those families address gaps in their planning, insurance coverage, etc.

Along the way, with our co-writer Gene Newman, Abby and I wrote and published the best selling book In Case You Get Hit By A Bus, a step by step guide to organizing your life now for when you’re not around later.

Everplans was acquired in 2021 by National Guardian Life Insurance, and then re-acquired in 2024 by Precoa.

I served as Co-CEO, Chief Product Officer and was on the Board of Directors.

Fotolog.com
2002-2008

I co-founded Fotolog with my friend Scott Heiferman. In a pre-myspace, pre-facebook and pre-twitter landscape, we created one of the earliest successful social micro-publishing environments. With small digital cameras and phone-cams becoming ubiquitous, Fotolog allowed people to share daily photos in a (highly addictive) way that maximized feedback from friends, and friends of friends. By 2007 we were the 15th most visited website in the world and had over 20 million members sharing nearly a billion photos in countries around the world (we were especially popular in South America and Europe).

I served as CEO, Chief Product Officer and was on the Board of Directors.

I also fotologged every meal I ate for over 7 years.

sixdegrees.com
1996-2000

I was part of the team that launched this pioneering social network. At a time when people wouldn't dream of importing their entire contact list into a website, sixdegrees got millions of people around the world to join and list the people they knew, building the first robust online network. We learned an incredible amount about virality and how to use a social network to make a lot of ordinary online interactions extraordinary.

I served as COO, Chief Product Officer and was on the Board of Directors. I was also one of the inventors on the Social Networking Patent that we created (which is now owned by LinkedIn).
